Safer Together – Parents/Carers Webinar

Hosted during Knife Crime Awareness Week 2026, this webinar provides parents and carers with essential insights and practical tools to protect young people and keep them safe. Acknowledging the anxiety and confusion often surrounding news of knife violence, the session moves away from distressing content to focus instead on the real, lived experiences of secondary school students. Through an impactful short film created in partnership with CrimeStoppers, viewers are invited to look at the ripple effects of knife crime on families and communities from a young person’s perspective.

The webinar introduces actionable, trauma-informed strategies to help adults cultivate open communication and establish themselves as trusted adults. Viewers will learn the A-C-E (Acknowledge, Curiosity, Explore) strategy, a communication framework designed to manage high-stress conversations, by focusing on emotional regulation first. The session also dispels common myths regarding knife carrying and highlights the critical drivers behind it, including fear and a lack of community opportunity.

Ultimately, the session emphasises that adults possess immense power to mitigate risks by championing protective factors and a strong sense of belonging. Alongside a breakdown of localised community support networks and anonymous reporting via CrimeStoppers, this resource is designed to further bolster your confidence in guiding young people toward safe, positive choices.
