Unique Voice Red Carpet Event!
As our patron, Sir Patrick Stewart, premières his latest X-men film world-wide, we thought it was time for our very own Unique Voice A-List event!
Celebrating Young Carers
With Carers Week just around the corner, we’re rolling out the red carpet and putting the bubbles on ice, as excitement builds for our Young Carers Film Premiere, hosted by Ashton Park School.
Following our schools tour of ‘A Day in the Life of Me’, aimed at raising awareness of Young Carers, we thought what better time to celebrate the amazing young people who inspired the project, than national Carers Week.
Friends, professionals and local businesses have all been invited to an intimate film première on June 10th at Ashton Park School. Funded by the Cooperative Membership, created by Unique Voice and captured by Langridge films, our innovative short film features Young Carers from the Bristol and South Glos Young Carers Support group and students from Ashton Park school.
We’re not only thrilled to be showcasing our film, but also proud to provide a platform to raise this hugely important issue. We hope to share ideas and inspire our passion in making it a national priority.
Here are some of the incredible young people who inspired and helped us write the project:
A Day in the Life of Me
‘A Day in the Life of Me’ challenges the social stigma and stereotypes that are attached to young carers. The play’s key message is to identify what a young carer is and how they can be supported in their everyday lives in a positive way.
Throughout the play we see the challenges and changes that come with becoming a young carer both practically and emotionally. Focusing on the concept of perception, the play examines how misguided our assumptions of other’s perceptions can be, and that sometimes our biggest fears can just be all in the mind.
It also challenges friends of young carers to develop empathy for a young carer’s situation and to support those friends who have a bigger and prouder role at home than other children their age.
For me, the most important part of ‘A Day in the Life of Me’ is to give all children the opportunity to discuss their own lives, compare theirs to others and learn to respect and value the fact that all families are different.
