Mental Health Toolkit – The Inclusive Classroom Series: Emotional Regulation
Mental Health Toolkit – The Inclusive Classroom Series
Emotional Regulation
Like everyone, children’s emotions fluctuate. Particularly at times of stress or in the height of emotion, they can find it difficult to express and cope with what they’re feeling.
Recognising the signs that a child or young person is struggling with their emotions can help us to support them and put appropriate strategies in place. Parents and caregivers play a crucial role in teaching emotional regulation skills, which are essential for healthy social and emotional development.
The Emotional Regulation webinar explores the complex world of emotions, and how they affect our bodies and minds. Based on Unique Voice’s in depth knowledge and research surrounding children’s mental health, this session provides an introduction to human physiological experiences and the behaviours which can result.
Expect to explore:
- Human stress responses and how these can manifest in children’s behaviour.
- Strategies for managing different types of stress response.
- Activities designed to support self awareness and emotional regulation.
- How to support children to reduce future incidents of dysregulation.
- Techniques for restoration after emotional outbursts.
“Emotional regulation is how we manage our responses to strong feelings or triggers. Emotional regulation is a skill that develops with age, experience, and problem-solving abilities. We do not all learn to manage our responses at the same time, growth is different for everyone and can depend on factors such as our personalities, environment, and experiences.” – CAMHS, 2025
